This is Day 64. The voyage continues in… Chania.
Trust me when I say that we’ve eaten locally. We’ve had some mighty fine Greek meals here, both traditional and some really nice modern fusion. But every once in a while, we crave something a little different. And I’m not talking McDonald’s, here.
In Nafplio, in the Peloponessos with the parental units, we had a great pizza. Mouth wateringly brilliant stuff. On Santorini, on Thanksgiving weekend, we had some of the bet Mexican fare we’ve ever had. And from Monastiraki, back in Athena, a non descript Indian restaurant that served up kormas and naan that can’t be beat back home. Again, really, really good stuff.
Tonight, after a great trout meal in the middle of the Cretan highlands yesterday, we were looking for something a little different. We found it in the church square of Chania, in a three story, five hundred year old Venetian building; Chinese.
And not just old Chinese either, but damned great food.
It seems that after four ethnic food experiments in Greece, we’ve come to the conclusion that the Greeks seem to have found the secret of doing great ethnic food. Not surprisingly, they’ve also been our four most expensive meals at 50 Euros or so each time.
