Day 157 – Strike

LGV157 laos luang prabang knife making strike copy

Ban Had Hian, Laos

On this day, we did as men used to do, and made our own knives. It is hard work, damned hard.

Thanks to Remy, we caught wind of a half day knife making course. Lay down the bucks and you too can be the author of a fine cutting tool. The raw stock comes form the leaf springs of trucks; hard high carbon steel.

Now, I’m not going to say that I made the thing entirely by myself… but I will say that I did work for it, and I did sweat. A lot.

Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

William Butler Yeats
