Where's Teddy Now?

Cooking Class Adventure

Today mamma and I took a Thai cooking class. It was something that we were looking forward to doing together.

Our “Nice Thai Cooking Teacher”, named Oui, led us to the authentic Thai cooking space… outdoors.

She called each item a “menu”. For example, if you choose a curry, a stir fry, a soup, and an appetizer,  she might even give you an extra menu!

Before doing all this, we went to a local market to get some ingredients for our choice of food; a yellow curry, chicken with cashew nuts, chicken soup in coconut milk, pork spring rolls, and an extra dish: morning glory! In the picture below, you can see me face to face with a pig head, in the meat section of the market!

My favourite dish was the sticky rice. I liked the sticky rice the best because I liked rolling it up in to little balls and dipping it in to the curry.

Oui let us taste all sorts of things. I did not like the chili jam, but my favourite was the coconut sugar. The dish I liked making the best was the curry because I liked smashing the paste with the mortar and pestle.

Finally we finished are cooking and ate part of the food and brought the rest home to share!

Dad Note: The girls did the course without me, since I wasn’t feeling well today. There are many cooking schools in Chiang Mai, and for this experience we chose Trichada, the Cookery Home, led by Oui Trichada. She was absolutely fabulous (according to the girls) and they highly recommend it. Inspired by Elliotte, and another little girl who cooked with them yesterday, Oui says that she will be developing a course specifically directed to children.

I think we’ll do another course with her, this time with me.
