Where's Teddy Now?

Knock knock…

Who’s there?

Orange!

Orange who?

Orange you glad I’m a mandarin?

lgv069Pick one place on this planet that has it all, and it might well be Greece. Here is a list of the fruit we’ve picked off trees (vines, bushes, etc) and eaten here in Greece:

  • pomegranate
  • orange
  • grapefruit
  • lemon
  • grapes
  • mandarin oranges

And not just fruit… YUMMY fruit. The best oranges and mandarins I’ve ever tasted. None of that Sunkist crap. Seriously, there’s more to life than Navel Oranges.

We found a tree while exploring a four thousand year old olive tree in Ano Vouves. There was a little old lady there, and as is their fashion, she began picking them off the tree for us, giving to me while pointing at Elliotte. The message was clear; feed the girl!

It’s a theme based on a tragic history of deprivation, and we’ve seen it before. On Santorini, while walking around searching for our cave house in Finika, we passed another old lady who told us to wait. In she goes, into her house, and our again with pomegranates and eggs. There was no doubt they were for the little girl.

That’s the view outside our stone cottage, and that’s a big pomegranate tree still bearing fruit. They, and orange trees – believe it or not– grow like weeds here.
