Day 271 – In Peace

Different war, same outcome.

War sucks. And yet I truly believe that it is necessary. Do we debate whether it was necessary to defend France against the Germans in 1914? 1940? Do we remember when the French subjugated Germany and Prussia (and most of Europe, as well) under Napoleon? The conditions under which Germany tried to survive after the Treaty of Versailles?

War is complicated.

Lucien Georges Thibault died on April 24, 1915, in the trenches in Belgium somewhere.  29 years later, Canadian soldiers participated in the liberation of Europe from the Germans. D-Day. It’s all related, and it’s all remembered.
