One need not be religious to appreciate the sheer beauty and richness of a place, the intensity of colour, the resolution of effort…

This place is over 750 years old. Most of its stained glass is 750 years old, some of the oldest extant glass in the world. This is the high middle ages, the Gothic period of architecture in the west. It was a time of pointed arches, vaults, verticality, thinner walls, and wider windows. It produced this, at St. Chapelle.

And it survived. 750 years.
