Snapshots: Driving in Jogja

Driving in Indonesia (sample size, n=2) is quite the amazing endeavour. I don’t think I’d rent a car and do it.

It’s a very carefully orchestrated cacophony of self centered privilege mixed with a humble dose of exasperated resignation, when you are forced to relent, and let someone in.

There’s a job in the big cities of Yogyakarta and Denpasar that involved stepping into the traffic with a semi-official flag of come sort, and halting traffic so that cars can exit the parking lots of stores.

Roll down the window, and feed the nice man 5000 IDR (about 50 cents) for the pleasure of being on your way.
